Visit to Wadi Shab on Thursday January 23rd 2003

Simon (see picture below) who also works in RAFO made the choice that we would drive down to Tiwi which is situated some 80k as the camel trots; south-west of Muscat on the coast of Oman. What he didn't reckon on is that there are very few straight roads here, and that the distance can be doubled because of switchbacks and the like. It ended up taking us the best part of 3 hours to get there.

Simon does the driving.........     ....and tries to miss the pedestrians.

First stop on the way down was Al Hajid, a small fishing village.

Having taken in the scenery we carried on down to Tiwi. It was as we left Al Hajid that the road we needed to follow made a turn inland and changed from tarmac to a graded road for about 35k, save for a bit of the blacktop as we went through the coastal village at Fins. This gave the Range Rover's suspension a thorough workout.

The rest of the journey followed a winding track which included some short but steep inclines before we eventually arrived at Shab, Tiwi's sister village at around 12.30pm.
