Standing above the village on one of the 100ft high sand dunes, you gaze down upon a date palm filled hamlet filled with the sound of clucking chickens and crowing cockerels, with the Bait Al Mahqam Fort rising majestically out of the centre.

The fort which has recently been restored, was constructed around three hundred years ago by Albusaidis and remained occupied up until 1970. There are two other forts nearby, the Fateh Fort and the Sur Jal Fort, both of which are in a sad state of repair.
